Making a name change would serve no purpose. “South” Bon Secour is a new designation and the names “North” and “South” Bon Secour were not used. Our community, is a 20 minute drive from Bon Secour. Evidence shows a small Middle Woodland village, Plash Island, stood about 1.5 miles north of one end of the canal and was likely responsible for the waterway’s construction.
